Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth, effectively concealing flaws and reshaping the teeth.
One of the most common uses for dental veneers is to correct smiles that are stained or discolored. Veneers look completely natural and they are customized to fit your mouth. Thus, they fit tightly over your natural teeth without looking bulky or fake.
Veneers can dramatically change your smile. If you have minor stains, chips, or cracks in your teeth, you might benefit from veneers covering the fronts of teeth to improve their appearance. They can also correct the following issues:
Discolored teeth
If so, the treatment begins with the removing some of your natural tooth enamel to make room for the veneer shell. A mold is then taken and sent to a lab where the veneers are made in a color that matches your natural teeth. When your permanent veneers are ready,.
Getting a dental veneer may take two visits to the dentist’s office, and many dentists recommend the placement of temporary veneers while the permanent ones are being prepared.
Our dentist will first examine your teeth and determine if veneers are a suitable treatment for you. If so, the dentist will remove a small amount of enamel from each tooth that will receive a veneer in order for the veneer to fit properly. Then an impression of the teeth will be taken and sent off to a lab that will create the permanent or porcelain veneers. In the interim, patients will wear their temporary veneers until their permanent ones are ready.
During the next appointment, the dentist will remove the temporary veneers and then bond the new permanent veneers to your tooth surface and polish them for a seamless finish. Patients can care for their new dental veneers just as they are caring for their natural teeth by brushing and flossing regularly. Veneers can last many years and are easy to maintain for many patients.
