Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth. Invisalign aligners are removable, meaning you can eat and drink what you want during treatment.
The Invisalign® system is a treatment technique that uses a series of clear, removable plastic aligners to straighten teeth without braces. This technique is less noticeable than traditional metal braces and can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Patients wear each aligner for about two weeks before moving on to the next set in the series. The full treatment process generally takes around 12 months for adults and about half the time for children.
In addition to being virtually invisible, Invisalign aligners are also more comfortable than traditional braces because there are no wires or brackets to irritate the cheeks or gums. Invisalign also requires fewer visits to the dentist than a traditional orthodontic appliance.
Invisalign is a good option for many patients who have mild to moderate misalignment problems and would like a discreet way to achieve straighter teeth.
Traditional braces are metal brackets and wires that are attached to your teeth. With Invisalign, you wear aligners that are made out of a soft plastic material that is BPA-free and doesn’t contain latex. The aligners are completely removable, so you can brush and floss more easily than traditional braces. You can also eat whatever foods you’re craving! Invisalign is typically an in-office procedure that takes anywhere from one to two hours per arch of teeth to map out a plan for the treatment process. We’ll take X-rays and photos of your teeth and create a 3D image of your treatment plan so you can see what your smile will look like after treatment is complete.
Before determining whether or not Invisalign is right for you, your dentist will perform a thorough examination of your teeth and bite. This exam will help determine the severity of your misalignment as well as the overall condition of your smile. If our dentists decide that you’re a good fit for Invisalign treatment, we can then move forward with creating the aligners that you will use throughout your aligner therapy process.
During your first appointment with our dentists, we’ll discuss the benefits of Invisalign treatment and walk you through every step of the process, from the initial fitting to wearing your custom aligners every day. We’ll also talk to you about how to care for and clean your aligners to ensure the best treatment results possible throughout your entire course of treatment. Lastly, our team will also talk to you about the foods you’ll need to avoid while wearing your aligners since there are certain foods that can damage or break an aligner.
