HOW TO RELEASE FOOD THAT IS STUCK BETWEEN YOUR TEETH
Getting a piece of meat fiber, popcorn hull or other tough food stuck in your teeth is very common. Usually, the food particle can be washed away with a simple rinse and swish of the beverage you have on hand.
Every now and then, food particles can get stubbornly stuck between two teeth, causing pressure and discomfort. In a situation like this, our Presidio Dental team offers these tips to help you free the piece of food that is stuck between your teeth:
-You should never try to use a toothpick or a sharp, pointed tool to pry it loose. This could injure your gums or damage the neighboring teeth.
-Waxed dental floss is the ideal tool to reach for. The waxy coating allows the strand to slide easily between the teeth. You should never force or snap the floss into place because it could seriously injure your gums.
-You might also want to try using a floss threader that is loaded with wax-coated floss to work at the object from a different position. If you own a dental fountain or oral water jet, it might be able loosen the object.
If these tips don’t help you, you should call Presidio Dental at 415.737.0430 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Kenneth Karamyan to have it professionally removed. Your dentist in San Francisco, California, is happy to help you!
